Making the Perfect Cup
Making the perfect cup of coffee always starts with fresh roasted coffee beans that are stored in an airtight container. Freshly grinding the beans before brewing coffee is one of the most important steps for achieving a quality cup of coffee. Coffee should not be ground more than 2 minutes before brewing or major staling (oxidation) begins to take place.
Only fresh filtered cold water should be used. If the tap water is not filtered, the choice should be bottled water. The coffee maker should be clean and free of coffee oils and water sediment.
Always measure out the proper amount of coffee for the brew. A simple rule of thumb is to use two level tablespoons per 6 ounces of water, but this can be adjusted according to taste to make your brew darker or lighter.
Brew only the amount that will be immediately drunk within the next half hour. Coffee cannot stay on a burner for more than 30 minutes. After that time the coffee will become bitter, lose flavor, and become stale.
